Salary: £26,341 – £27,924 with progression to £30,497 per annum

The Role
As part of our commitment to career development for research staff, the University has developed 3 levels of research role profiles. These profiles set out firstly the generic competences and responsibilities expected of role holders at each level and secondly the general qualifications and experiences needed for entry at a particular level.
You will work on the Heather van der Lely Foundation funded project “LIVELY – Language intervention in the early years” which is led by Professor Cristina McKean.

Key Accountabilities
The study has 2 components: a cluster randomised controlled trial of two language interventions carried out in Early Years contexts with children who speak English; and a case series study of the intervention adapted for use with children who speak languages other than English (LOTE).
You will have the following responsibilities, supported by the project PI and CI team and the Research Associate who is coordinating the project.
- Collection of assessment data
- Delivery of interventions to children in schools
- Data management ensuring it is reliable and complete
- Entering data into the data management systems
- Work with the study coordinator, to recruit and maintain relationships with schools
- Participate in engagement activities with schools and speech and language therapists
The Person (Essential)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Undergraduate or workplace experience with a paediatric caseload including preschool children
- Undergraduate or workplace experience working in and with schools
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with diverse groups of staff and families
- Understanding of Health and Educational contexts in England
- Able to demonstrate the application of knowledge and experience to practice
- Knowledge and experience of a range of intervention approaches relevant to preschool children with speech language and communication needs (SLCN)
- Knowledge and experience of a range of assessment approaches relevant to preschool children with (SLCN)
- Knowledge of professional standards
- Awareness of and sensitivity to needs of research participants from diverse cultural backgrounds
Desirable
- Completion of a research dissertation at undergraduate or postgraduate level
- Car Driver
- Experience of working with bilingual families

Qualifications
- An appropriate qualification to practice as a speech and language therapist (2:1 or higher)
- Health and Care Professions Council licence to practice
- Registered member of RCSLT
Desirable
- Completion of RCSLT NQP competencies (this can be achieved in post if necessary)
