Job Summary
We have an exciting new opportunity for a talented, dynamic Computational Chemist to join our CADD group at our drug discovery facilities in either Saffron Walden or Harlow, UK. This is an opportunity for you to develop a deep understanding of drug discovery, and to work with a diverse range of organisations across the globe, from charitable organisations and academic groups to biotech and big pharma. As a senior scientist within the Early Discovery CADD team, you will be exposed to a wide range of drug discovery projects across different therapeutic areas and target classes at all stages of the drug discovery process, and you will have the opportunity to work with world class scientists in different disciplines from across the wider Charles River organisation. Responsibilities:
- You will provide computational chemistry support to client projects, working as part of high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams at Charles River. Occasionally you may also provide standalone computational chemistry support to clients.
- You will use your computational chemistry expertise to help drive the progression of drug discovery programs at all stages of the drug discovery process, from hit finding through to the identification of pre-clinical candidates.
- You will present your work to Charles River’s client project teams and will interact directly with client team members in meetings and, when appropriate, during 1:1 discussions.
- You will be involved in the growth and development of the CADD group, for example through identifying and implementing relevant new technologies in order to enhance CADD and medicinal chemistry capabilities.
- You will have the opportunity to contribute to business development activities, including the writing and presentation of proposals for potential clients.
Candidate Profile:
- A first degree or equivalent in chemistry or a closely related subject.
- A PhD in a field of relevance to molecular modelling.
- Postdoctoral experience applying computational chemistry to drug discovery related projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
- A dynamic and flexible approach towards achieving client-based objectives, with the ability to deliver on multiple projects simultaneously and meet challenging deadlines.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, sound scientific judgement and high quality decision making.
- An interest in data science and predictive modelling would be an advantage.
