Full-Time Senior Epidemiologist / Health Data Scientist (remote working)

Our experienced UK-based team includes academic doctors, epidemiologists, and statisticians. In partnership with academic and clinical disease experts we deliver high-quality ‘real-world’ epidemiological research projects with maximum clinical impact.

About the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a Senior Epidemiologist.

We are looking for a highly motivated, ambitious, and technically excellent individual to join our close team. The post holder will be required to hit the ground running to support the delivery of ongoing observational research projects using UK electronic health record data across a wide range of disease areas, including COVID-19.

The successful candidate will be responsible for following existing study protocols and statistical analysis plans to prepare and check research datasets, leading statistical analyses, and supporting report and publication writing. They will also have the opportunity to be involved in research design and protocol development for future studies.

Our team support publications across a wide range of conditions and we have a track record of consistently publishing our outputs in top-tier journals across multiple disciplines. The successful candidate will work with our experienced team to continue this level of publication excellence. There will be the opportunity to develop analytical skills through using some of the world’s largest healthcare datasets.

The position will start as soon as possible and is currently a flexible post for 6 months. There is a high probability of conversion to a permanent contract upon completion of the initial fixed term period.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Apply appropriate statistical and analysis methods and techniques, in collaboration with colleagues & external stakeholders.
  • Use appropriate data exploration techniques.
  • Accurately interpret results in the context of research questions.
  • Prepare protocols, statistical analysis plans, reports, publications and other project outputs.
  • Document statistical code in transparent and reproducible ways.
  • Deliver projects according to timelines and requirements.
  • Supporting report and publication writing.

Candidate requirements:

Required:

  • PhD in biostatistics, epidemiology, health data science, or equivalent experience
  • Strong technical skills in particular R (required) but also including databases/other statistical software.
  • Experience leading analysis of large healthcare datasets (e.g. primary care data), with application of appropriate statistical methods.
  • Experience in designing epidemiological studies using real-world healthcare data.
  • Ability to write reproducible statistical code.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present information clearly.
  • Enthusiastic and professional approach to working with colleagues, clients and external collaborators.
  • Applicants are required to be based in the UK

Desirable:

  • Experience writing up observational clinical epidemiological studies.
  • Experience in preparing materials for conference presentations.
  • Relevant experience in a consultancy and/or healthcare, biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical industry.
