We are actively recruiting for a Scientist to join our clients Core Facilities Department to manage, standardise and optimise various support services and processes. Primarily meat tissue manufacture using in-house bioprocesses but also cell banking, culture media preparation and a range of sample analyses. In addition, the role will allow for select experimental mini projects with the other R&D teams. The successful applicant will have opportunities to develop in project management and, with time, line-management.
This role is offered on a full time permanent basis.
Responsibilities:
- Manage one of the meat-tissue manufacture streams, including tracking yielded product, coordination of samples, resource management, creating staff rota and generating progress reports
- Standardisation and optimisation of processes related to manufacture, cell isolation, media preparation, sample analysis and bioreactor handling
- Assist R&D teams with experimental on select mini-projects (i.e. internal support contracts)
- Update head of core facilities and wider R&D team of progress in the form of reports and presentations during 1:1 meetings, team meetings and weekly updates
- Maintenance of cell stocks (isolation, culture and banking)
- Preparation of resources for team (cells, media, reagents and biomaterials)
- Running analytical processes for spent media, cells / tissue samples and quality assurance
- Bioreactor preparation & operation
- Create SOPs, COSHH and other risk assessment documentation.

- Or Bachelors in either Life Sciences or related field e.g. biochemistry, cell biology or biotechnology with industry experience or equivalent
Essential Experience:
- Has demonstrated proficiency at driving forward and delivering R&D projects by rational experimental design and implementation
- Significant experience in aseptic technique and cell culture, preferably in the establishment, differentiation and maintenance of stem or primary cell types
- Expertise in characterising and quantifying cell proliferation and differentiation in either monolayer, suspension or bioreactor cultures
- Experience of setting up and optimising cell-based processes to a robust, preferably industrial-level, standard
- Experienced and highly skilled at data analysis and inferring hypothesis using data processing and analysis software
Desirable Experience:
- Mammalian cell culture expertise in muscle and adipose lineage cells, especially from tissue isolation
- Expertise in characterising culture media for nutrients, proteins, osmolarity and dissolved gases
- Molecular biology expertise e.g. immunosorbent assays, protein quantification, lipid quantification & PCR
- Application of DoE to rational experiment design
- Hands-on experience of culturing cells in bioreactor systems
- Experience with high-throughput lab instrumentation
