Part-Time Occupational Therapist

Job Description

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to work as an Occupational Therapist Band 5 across Carlisle and Penrith Cumbria Community Mental Health Teams. This is an excellent chance to learn and practice the fundamental skills of Occupational Therapy in a supportive and supervised environment. We work holistically to develop new skills and build brighter futures for people and use the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) to structure assessments, 1:1 and group interventions (Recovery through Activity). We strive to support people in overcoming barriers to meaningful activity by working on individual goals and enabling personal recovery.

We are looking for a motivated, confident, friendly person who is happy to work in a busy and sometimes pressurized multi disciplinary team. We need someone who understands the importance of maintaining an occupational focus in the team and be able to advocate the value of activity in people’s recovery journey.

It will be useful for you to have an awareness of how severe and enduring mental health issues impact on people’s daily lives. You will need to have an awareness of how to record and manage risks associated with working in a mental health setting. You will need to be responsible for an Occupational Therapy caseload and prioritizing cases where appropriate. You will have the chance to work with a variety of services to ensure the best possible outcomes for people; third sector, voluntary services, primary care, drug and alcohol services etc.

You will be supported through a comprehensive preceptorship program, receive regular clinical and professional supervision. You’ll have the chance to work in a creative and innovative team who are constantly striving to improve the quality of their work and outcomes for the people of North Cumbria.
