We are looking for an inspirational Design Manager who straddles Service Design and User Experience Design disciplines and bring people together across these 2 areas.
About the role:
The role requires extensive experience in human-centric design for a variety of platforms. Working as part of the Product Design team, an understanding of the broad spectrum of product design, service design, research, and branding, and a deep expertise in service design is required. You can delve into detail, as well as see the bigger picture, and provide strategic and tactical thinking and design/research direction to a cross-discipline team.
The role supports the Head of Product Design to spearhead the adoption of service design approaches and methodologies to M&S. It will take a data-informed approach to identifying opportunities for this work.
Key responsibilities:
- Shape aspects of service design strategy, and experience vision for M&S products and services
- Identify and build positive working relationships with stakeholders and build partnerships and virtual teams to change how M&S creates a seamless customer experience
- Define and introduce new toolsets to multi-discipline design and product teams
- Bring design and commercial saavy together to make good choice for customers and the business
- Create a supportive environment for team learning and growth. Line management and mentoring for designers/researchers. Recruitment and performance management
- Ensure appropriate people and resource allocation for world class delivery, within budget and considering feelings and thoughts of individuals
- Contribute to and constantly improve the workflow process of the team, supporting Design and Research Ops
- Evolve the M&S Design System
- Oversee and support projects with external suppliers

About you:
You already have a stack of industry experience, and some time in a managerial role where you’ve supervised designers or researchers. You have a proven ability to creating first class experiences, and you can take that experience and skills and inject your passion into inspiring and enthusing cross-functional teams.
As a good listener, and brilliant collaborator, you can identify potential and help people grow. You’re comfortable stepping into awkward conversations and turning tricky situations around from conflict to resolution.
Your combination of conceptual thinking and a pragmatic outlook means you take an imaginative and thoughtful position and are motivated to work through to the best possible outcome, despite ambiguity. You use data and insights to plot the path for great experience design. You are generous with your knowledge, sharing advice and information to give everyone you work with the best chance of success.
