Contract Clinical Nursing Manager

Job Description

Are you a qualified nurse with line management experience looking to be at the forefront of medicines development? If so, this position could be perfect for you!

As a Clinical Nurse Manager, you’ll have direct oversight of your team of nursing staff, technicians and other staff, to deliver high quality and safe clinical care during the conduct of clinical trials of investigational medicinal product/s and experimental medicine studies at the GSK Clinical Unit Cambridge (CUC). You and your staff will work alongside the multidisciplinary research team, which includes experienced Principal Investigators, clinical research physicians, physician associates and operations mangers to ensure that clinical trials are conducted and comply with acceptable clinical standards and the requirements of the protocol, standard operating procedures, ICH GCP, Research Ethics Committees (RECs), regulatory authorities and other applicable guidelines and regulations.

This is a senior management position, and it is expected that the post holder will be responsible for the development of their teams and other staff as required. In addition, they will have influence on discussions which impact study design and conduct, focusing safe and successful delivery of clinical trials at the CUC.

In this role you will

  • Review and contribute to protocol development ensuring site specific considerations have been included for the ward area activities.
  • Demonstrates sound scientific and ethical judgment to ensure that clinical studies are:
  • Conducted in the correct ethical, clinical and scientific manner,
  • Accurately documented whilst maintaining data integrity
  • Deviations or discrepancies dealt with contemporaneously.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and promote people development in an empowered clinical development organization
  • To manage the Clinical Ward team (including complimentary workers) working to the highest clinical, regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Works with Clinical Training Lead to ensure all clinical training needs of the team are maintained and may train in their area of expertise
  • Ensures that studies are conducted to HTA, ICH, GCP, GMP, Ethical, Regulatory requirements and GSK Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible for the nursing research team to ensure the maintenance of accurate research records and notes (source documentation), with data entry into paper or electronic databases as required.
  • Responsible for the nursing research team to ensure that standards are maintained to enable the delivery of consistent high quality and safe clinical trial conduct, at the CUC, through relevant audit and quality improvement and governance activities

  • Good leadership record – proven people management skills, having been responsible for overseeing staff
  • Experience of working within a clinical research environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to Coach and/or Mentor to key talent in CUC
  • Experience of running process improvement initiatives
  • Ability to be flexible and innovative in their approach with a proven ability to manage change
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and energy to operate in a complex organisation environment
  • Ability to maintain and develop relationships and networks with different communities
  • Maintains knowledge and proficiency in nursing practices (e.g. ALS certification), through continued professional development.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Experience in leading strategy development/implementation and change in a business unit projects – a proven change agent, operating with passion, urgency and commitment.
  • Business acumen by understanding the implications of decisions from a business perspective and uses this knowledge to plan, implement and manage R&D, issues, projects and ensure processes are aligned with CUC business needs.
