What you will be doing

You will be collaborating with specialists across the Oncology organization to design and execute experimental strategies to assess and mitigate potential clinical toxicities of novel biopharmaceuticals such as antibody-drug conjugates (ADC’s) and nanomedicines. You will contribute to the early stages of project assessment (i.e., target selection, chemistry optimisation etc…) and address specific safety concerns to improve the therapeutic index of lead candidates and ensure that teams can make the right decisions regarding associated risks. You will apply and develop in vitro advanced cellular systems to help drive our predictive toxicology capabilities.

Additionally, you will:

  • Address concerns about systemic toxicities, immunogenicity, non-specific clearance and develop strategies to overcome these to better exploit the properties of novel biopharmaceuticals and ADCs
  • Work collaboratively with fellow researchers to plan, execute and analyse experimental strategies and data for discovery safety assessment e.g., proteomics array screens and biodistribution studies
  • Explore innovative solutions and research proposals to pursue cutting edge novel biopharmaceutics and ADC science along with technologies such as organoids and micro-physiological systems for safety and efficacy assessment
  • Assess and propose new drug candidate designs for enhanced efficacy and safety
  • Regularly publish in high quality, peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific meetings

Essential Criteria

  • A PhD in cellular biology, pharmacology, immunology, toxicology or similar field with at least 3 years of post-doctoral research.
  • The ability to build an understanding of biology around novel targets and pathways, develop testable hypotheses, and drive scientific learning.
  • Proven experience in cellular biology techniques applied to development of physiologically relevant cellular assays to dissect biological mechanisms (including -omics technologies, gene editing, confocal imaging, advanced cell systems such as micro-physiological systems and flow cytometry)
  • A strong publication record demonstrating scientific excellence applying molecular techniques to advance understanding of cellular biology
  • Outstanding oral presentation and written communication skills
  • Highly motivated, innovative scientist with strong influencing skills, a collaborative team-oriented mindset and a strong desire to drive personal development.

Desirable Criteria

  • Expertise in the design and execution of cellular experiments to determine the effects of biotherapeutics on biological systems
  • Practical experience and scientific knowledge of in vitro models of haematopoiesis and/or peripheral neuropathy.
  • Experience with antibody-based therapeutics, including antibody drug conjugates
  • Understanding of the drug discovery process from experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
