Job Description
Functional Title: Data Scientist
Location: Welwyn
(It will be hybrid working, with 2 days in the office per week.)
Outside IR35 – £50/hr -£60 /hr
Lead, design, develop, execute, and deliver the optimal high quality data integration solutions needed for clinical trial and biomarker data exploration to support successful strategic decision making for clinical development pipeline and better understanding of disease and drug response.
- Build and maintain strong collaborative relationships and effective partnerships with project teams as well as other communities, working groups, initiatives, and external stakeholders.
- In close collaboration with project teams and any other relevant technical groups deliver the optimal high quality data integration solutions needed for clinical trial and biomarker data exploration for analysis by quantitative scientists.
- Create, maintain, and deliver a concise description of data preparation to partners and stakeholders as appropriate to ensure that integrated analysis datasets are readily and broadly made available.
- Responsible for managing and delivering multiple parallel activities within disease areas and across disease area projects.
- Coordinate and plan resource allocation with peers and managers on the assigned projects.
- Proactively maintain comprehensive knowledge of clinical data, biomarker data, analysis relevant operational data and quickly master the content, structure, meaning and intended downstream usage of any other data source as needed.
- Proactively raise ideas, develop fit to purpose prototypes, identify opportunities or gaps, and promote knowledge sharing to enhance ways of working (including processes, methods, technology, project management, stakeholder management etc.) to support the vision for promoting advanced data integration solutions required for better data exploration and insight generation in relevant analytical groups.
Skills:
- Knowledge of drug development (e.g. clinical development, Personalized Health Care) and highly complex clinical and high dimensional biomarker data sets (e.g., genotyping and gene expression data).
- Although the remit of the role does not include data analysis, some basic awareness of statistical concepts, analytical methodology would be an advantage.
- Curiosity and interest in the scientific aspects of drug development projects and advanced technology in data integration, analytics, and visualization.
- Able to build strong working relationships with appropriate personnel in other functional groups within and outside of the Data Sciences organization
- Excellent communication skills; ability to negotiate successfully; strong influencing skills
- Ability to work interactively with stakeholders to understand and define requirements and provide potential solutions and able to communicate complex concepts in a simplified manner

Background/Experience and Education:
- or M.Sc. or experience in Data Science or computational biology related field (e.g. Statistical Programming, Statistics, Bioinformatics)
- An understanding of clinical data and knowledge of CDISC data standards.
- Expertise in manipulating and analyzing various data types related to clinical trials, such as patient characteristics, lab values, and imaging (might also include digital health, genomic data, and biomarkers) in particular with R and/or other analytical software packages
- Proven comprehensive understanding of R programming language.
- Experience developing R packages.
- Experience of working with high-throughput Omics data.
- Knowledge of the Bioconductor core packages and data structures.
- Git and GitHub experience.
- Linux/Unix experience.
- Good knowledge of English in a business environment
