Full-Time Cheminformatics Data Scientist (Discovery)

Job Description

The Cheminformatics Data Scientist works with CCDC’s Discovery Science team to drive Cheminformatics research and the development of new scientific methods and software tools for both high-profile industrial partners in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries, as well as academic researchers and educators. The successful applicant will join the team in Cambridge, UK and engage in a wide range of duties from software testing through to primary life-science research.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attain the required levels of scientific knowledge and expertise in CCDC’s products to identify novel research and application opportunities, providing solutions optimized for performance and scalability
  • Establish prototypes and automated workflows for deriving novel insights from the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD)
  • Disseminate the latest cheminformatics and computational chemistry research trends and developments across the team, analysing them for potential benefits to our platform
  • Execute cheminformatics work with a high level of proactivity
  • Work with the Discovery Science team to provide scientific support for users as is necessary to build and maintain strong scientific relationships
  • Meet the user community to understand their scientific and technical challenges and identify where data science can best impact
  • Prepare high quality written and oral communications for the community and customers in the form of peer reviewed publications, scientific training materials and presentations

Qualifications

  • PhD in cheminformatics, computational chemistry or a related field or significant experience working providing computational chemistry support to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Post-doctoral or 3-5 years post PhD work experience preferred.
  • Experience with workflow applications and data analytics software (Pipeline Pilot, KNIME)
  • Significant experience in Python scripting and the development and application of cheminformatics tools/workflows.
  • Experience with machine learning and advanced data analysis techniques applied to molecular informatics is desired.
  • Experience of the Cambridge Structural Database System, data and software is desired.
  • Experience of writing reports and communicating scientific findings concisely and clearly.
